The North India Express: A Perfect 6 Days
“Traveling—it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”
Our trip through North India’s heartland—Delhi, Amritsar, and Chandigarh—was an unforgettable journey. Fifty eight students, accompanied by six teachers, made this experience a perfect and cherished memory. Our adventure kicked off with a nearly 26-hour rail journey—a marathon across the breadth of the country.
Day 1: Delhi Begins
On the first day, we visited the Red Fort, a majestic monument echoing the time-worn silence of the Mughal Empire. It was a magnificent experience walking through its historic corridors. After the tour, we explored Meena Bazaar, a covered shopping street filled with a variety of Indian handicrafts, souvenirs, textiles, and jewelry.
Day 2: Monuments and Marvels
The second day began with a visit to Qutub Minar. It was a breathtaking experience to stand before India’s second tallest minaret. Alongside the Minar, we gained insights into the Iron Pillar, Iltutmish’s tomb, and many other Mughal-era ruins.
After a 30-minute bus ride, we reached India Gate. It was a humbling experience to honor the bravery of Indian soldiers. From there, we enjoyed a panoramic view of Rashtrapati Bhavan, located directly opposite India Gate.
Later, we proceeded to Akshardham Temple, where we had many splendid and exciting experiences. “Sahajanand Darshan” stood out—robotics and dioramas showcased the life and teachings of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, emphasizing human values. In “Neelkanth Darshan,” we watched a 40-minute film depicting Swaminarayan’s journey. The boat ride that followed took us through 10,000 years of India’s glorious heritage, highlighting ancient discoveries, the Vedic era, and the world’s first university—Takshashila. Finally, we entered the dazzling temple itself. It was a wondrous experience—chaotic at first, then calm and serene.
Day 3: Amritsar’s Spirit
Two days flew by, and the third day arrived. We traveled to the Golden Temple—one of the most visually stunning temples we had ever seen. Surrounded by water on all four sides, its golden brilliance left us awestruck. It was a spiritual and breathtaking experience.
Soon after, we visited Jallianwala Bagh. It was not just a public garden—it is sacred ground, a monument to a dark chapter in India’s struggle for independence. This visit wasn’t merely sightseeing; it was a solemn pilgrimage to the site of the infamous 1919 massacre.
Later, we proceeded to the Attari Border, also known as the Wagah Border. Watching the parade during the “Beating Retreat” or Flag-Lowering Ceremony was thrilling and filled us with pride. The air was charged with intense patriotism and excitement.
Day 4: Chandigarh’s Charm
The next day, we headed to Chandigarh. We visited the Rock Garden, which was filled with beautiful views and cascading waterfalls. It was cleverly designed using recycled ceramic materials.
Soon after, we reached Sukhna Lake. Boating with our friends was a wondrous experience, and the view near the lake was mesmerizing—I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Though we were tired from all the adventures, we ended the day with a lively DJ night, dancing and celebrating the memories we had made.
A Journey to Remember
Though the trip felt short and eventually came to an end, the memories we made and the fun we had will never be forgotten. They will always be cherished—a perfect six days of learning, laughter, and unforgettable experiences.
